Manually updating your SoundTouch system

Before you begin

If your system is connected to your home network, it will check for software updates every time the system is used. If an update is available, it will begin downloading automatically. If an update is downloaded fully, text on the screen will prompt you that it is ready to be installed when powering down the console. Your system will shut down automatically after installation.

Updating the control console

When connected to a network with Internet access, the console will check for a software update each time it is used. If an update is available, the update will automatically be downloaded to the console. Once the update is fully downloaded, an on-screen message will appear stating “An update is ready to be installed. Install now?” when the system is powered off.

  • Make sure that the bass module and wireless surround receivers are connected wirelessly to the console in order to receive any updates available for these components
  • To begin the installation, select INSTALL.
  • When installation is completed, the system will power off.

The Lifestyle 600 and 650 systems cannot be updated through the SoundTouch app. Using the remote, press SETUP then select “Software Update” to determine whether a software update has been downloaded to the console. The on-screen instruction will inform you if any automatic updates are ready for installation.

Updating the bass module

To update the bass module, it must be connected to the console wirelessly. If the bass module was connected to the console using a 3.5-mm cable during the system update, the bass module will not be updated. To update the bass module, disconnect the 3.5-mm cable at both ends, pair the bass module to the console and install the software again using the “Updating with a USB thumb drive” section below.

Updating the remote control

If the control console has an update for the remote paired to it, the console will update the remote within 10 minutes. When the update occurs, the remote will not be usable for about 1  minute.

Updating with a USB drive (alternative method)

Note: The update must be copied to a PC formatted USB drive. Use of a Mac formatted USB drive is not supported due to the additional resource files written to the drive by the Mac OS.

Select the link below to download the update file.

At the prompt, click SAVE. Save the Update.avu file to your desktop (do not rename the file). If you do not see the prompt, the file may have been downloaded automatically. Look for the Update.avu file in the footer or header of your browser’s window or in your Downloads folder.

Copy the update file onto a USB drive.

  1. Insert a USB drive into a USB port on your computer.
  2. Copy or drag and drop the Update.avu file onto the USB drive.
  3. Eject the USB drive from the USB port.

On the remote, press “SETUP”. This brings up the UNIFY menu

Select "Software Update" from the UNIFY menu.

Insert the USB drive into the "SERVICE" port on the back of the console.

Select "USB Update". This will begin the update from the USB drive.

Follow the on-screen instructions

Note: The UNIFY menu is only available after the initial setup of the Lifestyle system is complete.
